Spring & Summer Cocktails: The Original "Strawberry Passion Martini"

Posted by

Ah, yes... Summertime is upon us. A time to enjoy the weekends outdoors while quenching your thirst with a refreshing juice cocktail! Cold juice cocktails are best enjoyed in the spring & summer seasons, because the fresh fruit ingredients are in their prime, and well "it's gonna be hot outside".

You will notice great prices on fresh strawberries at your local market this time of year. As fresh strawberries produce a delicious juice to mix with alcohol, this week we wanted to share the "Strawberry Passion Martini": another one of our favorite fresh squeezed, "boozey" juice cocktails.

This is an Original BarBack Tool recipe, where we use The O-Rig Tool as often as needed to produce excellent garnishes for our cocktails. We appreciate all of our fans who have wisely adopted The O-Rig BarBack as their regular beverage service tool.

The Original's "Strawberry Passion Martini" is classified as both a juice cocktail and a modern martini. The recipe calls for a mouthwatering combination of ingredients and is made using simple techniques such as: muddled fresh strawberries and passionfruit or passionfruit puree (don't use frozen berries), fresh squeezed lemon, lime, orange bitters and the star of the show: Absolut's Elyx Vodka.

Elyx Vodka's distillers painstakingly make sure that every drop of their vodka is distilled from soft winter wheat, grown on one single estate in the south of Sweden. This means that every batch of Elyx is 100% traceable from the planting of the seed all the way through distillation and bottling.

They manually distill Elyx in a vintage copper still from 1921, which only a few select expert craftsmen who have inherited their knowledge and expertise from generations of Swedish vodka makers operate by hand. Their still is made entirely of copper and it's the magic of these copper surfaces that enable us to craft a naturally smooth vodka with a rich silky mouth-feel and real character.

THE ORIGINAL "STRAWBERRY PASSION MARTINI"

YOU WILL NEED:

-A BARBACK TOOL

-ONE PINT MIXING GLASS

-ONE LARGE SHAKER TIN

-A HAWTHORNE DRINK STRAINER

-FINE SCREEN STRAINER

-ONE MARTINI GLASS, COUPE (OR A COPPER CHALICE, IF YOU CAN FIND ONE)

-FRESH STRAWBERRIES, FRESH PASSIONFRUIT, OR: ORGANIC PASSIONFRUIT PUREE

-LEMONS AND LIMES

-SIMPLE SYRUP

-ORANGE BITTERS

-ELYX VODKA

-LARGE ICE CUBES

*This cocktail is shaken, and double strained in a martini glass, coupe or copper chalice.

  1. CHILL THE GLASS.
  2. NEXT, INTO THE PINT GLASS, ADD 1 OR 2 LARGE STRAWBERRIES WITH THE LEAF REMOVED. NEXT ADD  1/2 PASSIONFRUIT PULP OR ONE OUNCE OF PUREE, 1/2 LIME SQUEEZE 1/2 LEMON SQUEEZE, 3 DASHES OF ORANGE BITTERS AND ICE.
  3. NEXT POUR IN 2 OUNCES OF ELYX VODKA AND 1/4 OUNCE OF SIMPLE SYRUP.
  4. CAP SHAKER GLASS WITH SHAKER TIN AND SHAKE VIGOROUSLY FOR 30 SECONDS.
  5. NEXT, USING A HAWTHORNE STRAINER, SLOWLY STRAIN THE CONTENTS OF THE PINT GLASS THROUGH THE FINE SCREEN STRAINER AND INTO THE CHILLED GLASS CONTAINING 3 LARGE ICE CUBES. THERE WILL BE A GOOD DEAL OF PULP, SO YOU MAY HAVE TO CLEAN THE SCREEN TO COMPLETE THE FULL STRAIN.
  6. THE FINISHED POUR SHOULD BE TWO STRAW LENGTHS WIDTH FROM THE RIM.

    GARNISHES:
  7. USING THE BARBACK TOOL, SLICE A MEDIUM/THIN LIME WHEEL AND FLOAT WHEEL ON SURFACE OF FINISHED DRINK.
  8. IF YOU SO DESIRE, USE THE BARBACK GARNISH KNIFE TO CUT A SMALL SLIT ALONG THE BOTTOM OF A FRESH STRAWBERRY AND PLACE IT ON THE RIM OF THE GLASS. ALSO, USE AN EDIBLE FLOWER GARNISH AS WELL, IF DESIRED.
  9. ENJOY!
